This morning’s 24 km cycle ride took me just over the border into Germany.
I ride this way quite often but I recently became aware that I was missing various places of interest.
Wurmtal is one such place, a small nature reserve, alongside the river Wurm, from which it takes it’s name.
I have cycled past Wurmtal many times but have never paused and taken the slight detour to take a look.
Cycling is not allowed here, so it’s a question of getting off the bike and walking for a while, which I’m more than happy to do.
Wurmtal is essentially a series of small lakes and ponds, home to literally thousands of wildfowl.
I lost count of the many different species of ducks and geese I saw here today.
I’d never be able to identify many of them, although I did see a solitary swan sheltering under a tree from the already hot sun.
It is so peaceful here, I simply sat and watched them all on or near the water, going about their business regardless of human presence.
Alongside one of the lakes is a derelict stone building, apparently a bath house from Roman times.
There are more photos than kilometres today….
