It must be 50 years or so since my parents bought me my first ‘full sized’ pedal cycle.
I certainly made the most of it, rode thousands of miles, home & abroad, joined cycle clubs and even completed a few time trials.
But once I was 19 & in full-time employment, the first motorcycle of many replaced the pedal cycles I had & a whole new two-wheeled adventure commenced which was to last me another 35 years.
Living in the Netherlands, you can’t miss the fact just about everyone rides a cycle and yesterday I joined them, acquiring a nice previously owned example, 21 gears, drum brakes, dynamo lighting and an aluminium frame.
Riding it home I was instantly transported back to my youth, and today I rode almost 10km around the town.
Studying the map this evening, I wonder where I’ll wander tomorrow?
