April was a very enjoyable and satisfying cycling month for me.

After five single day rides I finished the month off with a demanding two day, 215 km ride mostly alongside Belgian canals via an overnight stop at Tessenderlo.

My longest one day cycle ride this month was a great 88 km loop through the German countryside via Neuhaaren.

The weather improved considerably as the month progressed and I was please to total 444 km of cycling in six rides.

Yesterday, April 30th was also the fourth anniversary of my ‘Born Again Cyclist’ adventure.

I had no idea at the time how my return to cycling after around 44 years would develop and for me it’s been a truly amazing, life changing experience.

Over the last 4 years I have ridden 370 separate rides totalling 20228 km and 127997 metres of elevation gained.

I’ve cycled for 1077 hours and burned 639355 calories.

In exploring the Dutch, German and Belgian countryside on my bike, I have tried to find new routes for each ride.

The desire to see over the next hill or around the next corner is stronger than ever.

Photographs from April’s rides may be found here and all my routes are here.
