My 43 km cycle ride this morning was a very hilly circuit to the south of Heerlen.

When I woke up at around 06:00 it was still raining hard but the local forecast ‘promised’ the rain would cease and the sun appear before 08:00.

Sure enough that’s exactly what happened, so I promptly set off for a relatively quick ride.

At around the half-way point I stopped in the Dutch hamlet of Oud Lemiers.

There is a small, well kept picnic area which actually straddles the border between the Netherlands and Germany.

The border itself is marked by two very old stone pillars, with fading red/white/blue markings around the top.

Today’s featured image was taken at the picnic area in Oud Lemiers.
