I left home before 0630 this morning for my 69 km cycle ride to the Maas river, mainly to avoid the high temperatures expected later in the day.
My first sight of this major artery through the Netherlands was at Hannssum, after which I followed the river for 15 km or so until I reached the massive sluis (lock) complex at Osen.
Not long after my first banana break at Hanssum I had to share the designated cycle track with cows, who were reluctant to make way for me, maybe there’s a different word for ‘shoo’ in Dutch?
Eventually they wandered off, and I continued on my way towards Roermond and beyond.
By the time I returned home it was way too hot for any more energetic cycling but a snooze on the sofa could not be avoided.
