Earlier today I returned from cycling along the LF Maasroute.
To describe it as an extremely challenging cycle ride would be an understatement to say the least.
I experienced rain and strong winds every day which intensified considerably as I turned to the west towards the North Sea.
By the time I reached my fourth overnight stop at Woudrichem, the conditions were extreme.
Keeping control of the bike on the exposed dykes became more and more difficult in the face of strengthening winds and torrential rain.
There comes a time when the sense of adventure and discovery becomes secondary to my personal safety, and once I saw the weather forecasts for the remainder of this tour, I reluctantly decided to head for home.
From Woudrichem I turned south-east, away from the weather front and towards home.
With an arranged overnight stop in Weert, I cycled and took the train back to Heerlen.

I’m sure I will return to complete the Maasroute sometime later this year.
There are many photos!!
