The rolling hills of south Limburg were the setting for this morning’s 42 km cycle ride to the south-west of Heerlen.

I’m still building up my strength and fitness after not cycling in the winter months and today was the hardest route so far this year.

The reward for the extra effort is some stunning views in every direction from the high ground viewpoints.

What goes up must come down and the many downhill stretches were most appreciated.

To add to the effort I also had to contend with fairly strong headwinds for much of the ride.
