Extreme weather conditions recently have made it almost impossible to get out on the bike for a decent ride.
Therefore it was nice to get out today for an interesting 40 km ride to the south west of Heerlen.
Overnight thunderstorms meant a somewhat misty and humid start but it wasn’t long before the warm sun shone through.
Today’s featured image is from the temporarily closed road tunnel near the village of Etenaken.
This is the start of a 4 km section of road between Etenaken and Ubachsberg where a completely new fietspad (cycle path) is being created alongside the existing road which is also being improved.
These works are part of an extensive project in South Limburg to further enhance the cycling infrastructure in the region.
It’s due to be completed in December this year.
However I was able to ride on about 2 km of the completed cycle path.
Interesting to note that it’s actually wider than the remaining roadway, which gives an indication of the high levels of cycle usage here.
