Today’s 88 km cycle ride started before 07:00, mainly because I wanted to see the sun rise out in the countryside.

As I headed north and east into nearby Germany the sun came up over the trees and through the mist near Rimburg.

It’s so quiet at this time of the morning and I encountered nobody for the first 25 km or so, cycling along the track alongside the river Wurm.

At around 35 km I came alongside Lago Laprello near Heinsberg.

This is a large nature reserve and home to many species of wildfowl.

After pausing for breakfast and photographs I continued west until I came to Westlichster Punkt, the westernmost point of Germany.

From here I headed south towards home.
