Today’s 54 km cycle ride was a leisurely tour of minor rural lanes surrounding Weert.
Before the cycling began we were treated to the most stunning red-sky sunrise which I’ve shared in today’s images.
I set off at around 0900, aware that the weather forecast was for rain at some stage today but it still came as a surprise that it started only 10 km into the ride.
At this point I put my rain jacket on and stayed warm and dry for the remainder of the route back to Weert.
The tiny hamlet of Mildert really is off the beaten track, alongside the Wessem-Nederweert canal to the west of Leveroy and home to several substantial farms.
There is also a small brick chapel, apparently built in 1912 and dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Peace’.
