Today’s 46 km cycle ride was a particularly hilly excursion to the south-west of Heerlen.

It was also extremely sunny and hot.

This provided the perfect opportunity to give my ‘milk-bottle’ legs some more exposure to the sun.

There were some considerable ascents along the way, especially just over the Belgian border.

My total elevation gain was 524 metres, but fortunately there were an equal amount of speedy descents to balance things out.

The elevation profile below gives an idea of the length and steepness of today’s hills.

Today’s featured image was taken as I paused for breath overlooking the Dutch village of Epen.

The hamlet of Terpoorten is also in the foreground.
