Yesterday evening I returned from an interesting two day, 213 km cycle ride in Germany.
Known as the ‘West-Bike Route’, this ride took me through varied landscapes, forests and small towns and villages.
This was all on minor country lanes, cycle paths and rough un-paved pathways.
About 20% of the route was un-paved and quite demanding in places, due to heavy overnight rain.
I have to say this is the type of cycling I really enjoy, away from the hustle bustle of large towns and cities.
There is a real connection to nature in the peace and tranquility of the open countryside.
The weather was changeable for both days, with un-forecast heavy rain for the last 50 km yesterday.
A highlight of the trip was visiting ‘Westlichster Punkt Deutschlands’, the westernmost point of Germany.
This also marks the narrowest part of the Netherlands, less than 5 km to the border with Belgium.
My overnight stop was a great B&B in Wassenberg, Germany and a short walk away was good food and beer!
