Today’s early morning cycle ride was a nice 22 km loop to the north of Heerlen, around the local nature reserve of Brunssummerheide.

I’m a frequent visitor to this area but it’s never better than under blue skies with the early morning sun casting it’s orange light.

The summer colours are so vibrant at this time of  day and it’s so peaceful with just a couple of dog walkers wandering through the heathland.

There are designated cycle tracks throughout the area.

These are shared with walkers but some of the very best views can be found by venturing a few metres from the established paths.

I deliberately didn’t cycle too far from home this morning as it was essentially a test ride to ensure a repaired puncture from a recent ride is now airtight (It is!!).

Today’s featured image is of the Koffiepoel, the largest of the lakes within Brunssummerheide.

Translated this means ‘coffee pool’ and I’m guessing it gets the name because of the clear, dark brown water caused by underlying peat bogs.
