Once the sun appeared this morning & got rid of the heavy overnight frost I decided to give my new thermal layers a local test ride.

I didn’t have a route in mind so I cycled east from Weert until I became totally lost….or I should say in unfamiliar surroundings, a rare route out of the city I’d not used previously.

A new discovery was a another motorway over-bridge and another railway crossing I wasn’t aware of.

As I descended from the motorway bridge I could see a group of small lakes/ponds away in the distance.

Riding a little further I came across the first pond, Schoorkuilen which is home to many wildfowl species.

After a pause for photographs I continued towards the village of Schoor before crossing the canal to head towards Nederweert-Eind and the long straight route home alongside another canal.

Just under 20 km this morning but at least I know my thermals work perfectly.
