Instead of planning my own route, for a change I downloaded this morning’s 27 km cycle route from the internet.

Unfortunately for me it contained a disproportionately high number of hills for such a relatively short ride.

With 270 metres of elevation this means an average of 10 metres per km, which is quite a lot, even amongst the hills here in south Limburg.

Some of the inclines were so steep that I needed the very lowest of my bike’s 27 gears to ascend without pushing.

Very satisfying to freewheel down the other side.

It was also nice to be cycling in the early morning sunshine and before the cycle tracks were swarming with kids on their way to school.
