The Thursday cycle ride was an 81 km circuit to the north of Heerlen, 60 km of which were in nearby Germany.

This was the first cycle ride of the autumn, mostly under cloudless blue skies.

This area is elevated and exposed to prevailing winds.

Today they were strong enough to de-stabilise me and the bike on a few occasions, especially the cross-winds.

It’s no surprise that there are many hundreds of wind turbines covering the landscape, spinning in the strong winds today.

At around the 37 km mark I came across large fields of sunflowers near the hamlet of Hoven.

Today’s featured image is from this area.

I really like cycling here, it’s wide open spaces are in contrast to the hills of South Limburg and the country lanes are so quiet and peaceful.
